East West Bank Spring Festival
Produced by South Bay Spring Festival Foundation
Supported by SBCS, PVCS and TCS
Introduction
South Bay Spring Festival, an annual celebration of our biggest traditional holiday at the Promenade on the Peninsula, is organized by the South Bay Spring Festival Foundation (SBSFF), and supported by local Chinese schools, such as South Bay Chinese School (SBCS), Palos Verdes Chinese School(PVCS), Coastal Chinese School(CCS) and Torrance Chinese School(TCS). SBSFF is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and celebration of the largest Asian holiday, Spring Festival. The SBSFF celebrates this holiday by showcasing the rich and diverse Chinese culture through festive song, dance, martial arts, food, drinks, art displays, games, crafts and other cultural traditions offering the community an exciting and thrilling experience to remember.
SBSFF believes that Spring Festival will flourish and endure, by accumulating credibility, respect and anticipation from our participants, sponsors, and communities. The true beneficiaries will be our children's memories of how Spring Festival was celebrated right here in their hometown when they were growing up. Our hope is that this festival is the Holiday that our community looks forward to, and is excited to celebrate each year.
Mission Statement
1. Celebrate Spring Festival
Chinese Spring Festival, also called the Lunar New Year, is the most celebrated Asian traditional holiday. The main purpose of our foundation is to create a similar event in our local communities to celebrate this wonderful holiday for children of all ages, to work with the local Chinese communities to successfully hold this Festival annually. Our hope is that everyone, especially children, will not only have fun at the Festival but also be culturally enriched.
2. Showcase the talents of South Bay local artists
We have stage performances that consist of colorful folk dances, traditional musical instruments, singing groups and music bands. “Spring Festival’s Most Talented” performance groups will be voted by the audience and awarded on the event day. Asian martial arts competition consisting of Taekwondo and Chinese Gong Fu from various local sport schools will also be showcased at the event. In addition, we have drawing/painting competition on display.
3. Educate the non-Asian communities of Asian culture and customs
Our Spring Festival is hosted in an open mall and free to the public. We have vender booths to provide various culture-specific goods and activities. We also have booths to exhibit arts & crafts and games, all with signature Asian culture. At the end of the event, a popular Asian movie will be played, free to public.
4. Encourage and promote the study of Asian languages and cultures
We have teamed up with local schools to give students who participate in the Spring Festival extra Chinese class credit, and a chance to apply for summer scholarship. There will be ten summer scholarship of $500 each to encourage student to take summer camping trips to China or other Asian countries to acquire deeper exposure of the Asian culture.
5. Promote multicultural awareness, harmony, and understanding
We hope this event will successfully promote multicultural awareness, harmony and understanding among our local communities.
